He was never taught handwriting, nor even how to hold a pen properly. I tried,(So hard!!! *G*), but he was SUCH a self-willed, obstinate kid, that he would only do it while I was actively sitting there WATCHING him, so of course it never stuck.

And in schools at that time, (I don't know if it's the same now, the government policies change...), but at that time it was considered to be "Undermining their confidence and creativity" if the teachers pointed out mistakes. So the the teachers didn't moan that their handwriting was terrible or that they were spelling everything wrong.

Then in secondary school, all their work and projects were done on the computer.

(His spelling isn't bad now though, but his handwriting is still awful.)

Yeah, I do think cursive is disappearring...I see a lot of hand-completed forms in my job, (from all ages though), and the handwriting on 95 per cent of them is really scrappy individual letters, (often a random unjoined mix of capitals and small letters), that look like they were done by a six year old. And quite often the people are on 60,000 pounds a year or more.
