Oh My God
I accidentally just discovered one of the songs I sang in All County, when I was in 5th grade, was originally written by Mozart for a castrati.
I'm so happy right now.

FYI, this is a modern day real life man named Michael Maniaci who never experienced puberty like other guys.

I have now.
But he isn't a natural soprano like Maniaci. You can tell he's a countertenor because he has no softness. It's just one dynamic, loud.
Impressive, yes. But it's just not the same as a natural male soprano, if there's anything natural about it.

That sounds incredibly sophisticated compared to what I remember we sang in All County in 5th grade... The only song I really remember was called, "Puddle of Mud," if I recall correctly...

That song, when I think back on it, was difficult to learn. I need to find a CD or VHS of the performance. We have one, I just never thought to actually watch it. Thinking about it, it's weird I never have seen/listened to what I did.

Hmm, we all did other songs. I can only remember 2 others as of right now. "It's a Beautiful Morning" and "Rag-time Band."

I remember my 8th grade All-county a lot better... but that's because I have a recording of it. We sounded so cute!

What part were you?

I only did All-county one year. Back in the good ol' days aka until 8th grade I was a soprano 1. I didn't do any chorus after that, so my voice has been out of training for years.

Interesting. When I was in All-County in 5th grade, I was an Alto 1... I believe. I think my teacher figured it would be easier to 'get us in' if she said we were a lower voice part. Haha..

Yeah, there were only 6 of us from my school who were trying out. We had 2 soprano 1s, 2 soprano 2s, and 2 altos.
I vaguely remember some drama with an alternate who didn't 'make it' and wasn't selected to go to the real auditions. Strange how we had a cap, but ah well.
