It so desperately wants to be cursive, right? I've always had that problem. Mainly because when I was in elementary school after we learned cursive (which was 2nd grade) we weren't allowed to use anything else, so when I went to public school in the middle of 6th grade I created a hybrid style.

I love that you did this on a dry erase board. Ah college memories~~. Also, I love you add a - on your Zs.

You have nice handwriting.

I've noticed in German and French schools they all seem to get taught handwriting and all seem to write in the same style. In the UK we don't, (or didn't when I was a kid), so everybody's handwriting styles are all really different. Were you taught handwriting at school, or is this a style of writing that you've gradually found?

I might have a go at this meme it looks fun.

Thank you! In my family I always got yelled at for having messy handwriting. Still happens now XD

I was taught handwriting in school, but we were given space to develop a style? I don't know how to explain it, but as long as the letter was recognizable from the examples we were given it was OK.

You should do it!

I don't think your handwriting is messy at all, it's really nice.

My son, and all his friends, have TERRIBLE handwriting, it looks like it was written by a seven year old. I think it's because they do all their writing on keyboards and hardly ever pick up a pen. They just don't have the practice behind them.

That's interesting. Then again, the school I was in forced us to use cursive once we learned it. Also, computers were just beginning to come into the classroom so we didn't use it much for papers and such. I like to think that maybe being forced to write everything helped make for clearer handwriting.

It's funny, but this whole talk of handwriting reminds me of something my professor said. He mentioned that the art of handwriting and English calligraphy is disappearing. And how it's a shame a lot of people don't know cursive any more.

He was never taught handwriting, nor even how to hold a pen properly. I tried,(So hard!!! *G*), but he was SUCH a self-willed, obstinate kid, that he would only do it while I was actively sitting there WATCHING him, so of course it never stuck.

And in schools at that time, (I don't know if it's the same now, the government policies change...), but at that time it was considered to be "Undermining their confidence and creativity" if the teachers pointed out mistakes. So the the teachers didn't moan that their handwriting was terrible or that they were spelling everything wrong.

Then in secondary school, all their work and projects were done on the computer.

(His spelling isn't bad now though, but his handwriting is still awful.)

Yeah, I do think cursive is disappearring...I see a lot of hand-completed forms in my job, (from all ages though), and the handwriting on 95 per cent of them is really scrappy individual letters, (often a random unjoined mix of capitals and small letters), that look like they were done by a six year old. And quite often the people are on 60,000 pounds a year or more.

Oh wow, that's interesting. Then again I'm not sure how the public elementary schools did it. I went to Catholic school for grade school where they were slightly stricter.

For some reason having both bad handwriting and being on a decent salary level doesn't surprise me.
