So I need help from my LJ friends, hope you all are willing!!
Here's the question.
Should the US/NASA push for human exploration of Mars?
I'm looking for reasons supporting or not supporting Mars exploration. What would be some positive or negative contributions to going to the red planet?
Thanks for your help in advance!!

Date: 2007-02-01 08:14 pm (UTC)Topic Consideration 1: An early model of Planet Earth
Mars as i mentioned before is at stage that many scientist believe Earth was once in, a stage where life began. By studying Mars with human exploration we can cover certain experients, like the core drilling as I also mentioned. There are machines that can do core drills but there are certain reasons why humans do it better (you should research that...i got it from a geology text)
Topic 2: Possible Inhabitants for Humans
If we send humans we can determine if Mars could someday become a second home for humans and other organisms. Whether it be a drilling site for precious metals or natural resources that we have almost used up. Human presence on Mars would be a step forward as a whole planet, coure it might require partial world cooperation.
Topic 3: As I mentioned in Topic 2, there is a possiblity that Mars contains subsurface water gyers. If this is true, there is a possiblity that there are other natural resources also avalible on Mars. Human exploration would be covering another front and examing possilbe ares for this. You would need machines, but machines need people too.
There are few theories...some are weak but you can justfiy sending humans to Mars, you should also take a look at the Lunar Landings, see if you can find reasons why they sent people to the Moon, you could probably reincorpperate those as well. The really big thing with Mars right now is the geological distubance which says water was running there much more recently and suggests that there is water below the surface. As most believe life started in the water, this is about as primitive as we can get to see how life began on Earth.
